PANAMA CITY BEACH, FL (WJHG/WECP) The Bay Tornadoes and Rutherford Rams put the wraps on their spring practice seasons with a head to head meeting at Tommy Oliver Stadium Monday night, with first year coach Mike Watkins and Bay walking away with a 13-12 win.
The two teams, playing Monday because bad weather postponed their scheduled Friday game.
The Rams struck first with a 79 yard touchdown run by DJ Foster, who took the second of two inside handoffs behind the line, and burst up the middle, practically untouched, on his way to the end zone. The Rams failed on a two point attempt which made it a 6-0 game.
Bay didn't answer until a drive early in the second quarter, the drive capped by quarterback Jayvien Wilson keeping the ball and scoring on a sweep around the left side. Another failed conversion attempt left the game tied at 6.
That's how it stayed until the third quarter when Rutherford retook the lead on a two yard touchdown run by Foster, who lost the handle at the goal line but the Rams recovered, to make it 12-6.
Bay would get the final score of the game, it coming in the 4th when Wilson hit Janarius Smith with a receiver screen from the Bay 42. Smith getting good blocks from two teammates, he then shed two Rutherford tacklers and pulled away for the tying score. The ensuing point after turned out to be the difference in the 13-12 win.
