Bay High Forfeits All 2011 Football Wins

PANAMA CITY, FL- Newschannel 7 has learned the Bay High football program is forfeiting its entire last season because it used an ineligible player.

Bay High school principal Billy May says the program will forfeit the three games it won last season after administrators found an academically ineligible player was allowed to take the field.

The player should not have been ineligible after failing at least one class, and possibly more. The student was scheduled to make up a class that he had failed to bring his grade point average to the necessary 2.0.

But May says a guidance counselor at the school altered the player's transcripts to indicate he passed the make-up course before the class begun. Then the student failed to re-take the class, and played football anyway.

May says administrators found the error last week. They have since reported the situation to district athletic director Kirk Harrell, and the Florida High School Athletic Association.

Bay has notified the schools they played in football that they forfeit the three wins from last season. Bay beat Liberty County, Walton, and Suwanee to go 3-7.

May says this incident was just an error by the guidance counselor, and not an intentional act of cheating.

Newschannel 7 spoke with head coach Jimmy Longerbeam Wednesday afternoon and he said quote, "We think everything is being done above board, we've been proactive once it was brought to our attention, there's nothing like that [cheating] going on at bay."

May also said they looked at the other 12 or so students who used the forgiveness program and did not find any other instances.

This investigation is not over though, the FHSAA investigating and Newschannel 7 will continue to follow this story.

What do you mean? So is the student that did not report Arnold did not report Arnold Bay High would not have told the truth on themselves? What other dirty laundry will come from Bay High? They admitted what happened and were honest. Arnold has not forfeited any wins to anyone and they still are playing football.

Heres the allegation on what happen. A student went to transfer to another area school.that school ran that students name and came back with the student gpa(which was below 2.0) . Then that school call bay high school to talk about this student and let them know that they were going to inform fshaa of ineligible player.Remember(back in august) at the time of all this going on the ad at bay quit after 4 game of season by the news reports and jimmy longerbeam (HEAD COACH) took over as AD at bay high.Sounds a little FISHY.

So the AD left because he knew something was FISHY? Really? The grades were changed before the class was complete. It was wrong and they admitted it, that is the real deal. It seems like you know more than you let on Eye in the Sky. It sounds like you are a big Arnold Supporter who is upset that Bay High has done the right thing and the FHSAA will not find anything else. If they were truly doing something wrong then more would of been caught. I am sure you know what is going on out at Arnold, what is the FHSAA doing out there?

Wow. Three wins. Hell of a program Bay has and they had to cheat to even get those three. Definitely money well spent on that coach... /rolls eyes
