PANAMA CITY, Fla- The Bay football program now has it's next head coach in place.
Principal Billy May tells newschannel 7 sports he's hired Jimmy Longerbeam, who comes south from Loris High School in Horry South Carolina, in the very northeast part of the state. As May puts it, Longerbeam "blew away" the search committee Thursday, and they feel very confident in the hire.
Oddly enough, May and the committee found out about Longerbeam through Dale Brewer, the assistant from Pensacola who three weeks ago, was offered and accepted the Bay job. Brewer wanted to bring Longerbeam to Bay as defensive coordinator.
Then after Brewer backed out of the job, Longerbeam was already on Bay's radar when he applied.
Longerbeam has 8 years head coaching experience, the last four at Loris, where his teams were 7-3 and 6-4 the last two seasons. He was voted his region's 2-A coach of the year last season.
After accepting the job following his interview at Bay Thursday, the coach drove back home to inform his players Friday. He'll back in the area for some kind of introduction to local fans early next week.
