Panama City, Fla- As we told you a couple of weeks ago, Bay is in the market for a new coach when principal Billy May decided not to renew the contract of Frank Sorrells. May wanting to go with a coach he believes will be around for the long term, 7 to 10 years. So he's formed a committee of boosters, local businessmen, former players and school faculty to narrow the search and already he's willing to talk about some candidates.
"Bay High is an attractive job because of our pay structure here. The football coach is on an administrative pay scale and they work 12 months," May said. "So it's an attractive job, plus we have athletes in our building. So we hope we get the most qualified person. Some of the names that are recognizable that I don't mind talking about right now are a couple of former FSU players, Buster Davis, Tay Cody who's on our staff right now, and the offensive coordinator at Pensacola High School, Dale Brewer."
Pensacola a powerhouse program right now. May says they've received about 100 applicants overall, the committee will narrow the list to ten, for face to face interviews next Thursday. He's hoping one of those ten will stand out and says they could be offering the job late next week. The new coach will inherit a team that went 5-5 last season, and certainly showed some flashes in the jamboree a couple of weeks ago.
