Bay United U-14 girls soccer team preparing for Regional Tournament

By  |

PANAMA CITY, Fla- The Bay United Under 14 girls team will play in the Southern Regional Tournament of the United States Youth Soccer Association June 16-22.

This is a first for the team, and for that matter any Bay County youth soccer team. They finished as Florida State Cup runner-ups in late May, but got the opportunity to represent the state as the regional team a few days after the state tournament concluded.

The team will head to Murfreesboro, Tennessee next week to compete in the 16 team tournament. For more visit

Below is the team's official press release:

This is truly an historic and exciting time for soccer in Bay County. For the first time in the history of FYSA soccer a team from Northwest Florida (Region D) will represent the great State of Florida in the Southern Regional Tournament of the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series. After an aggressive run through State Cup play without allowing a single goal until their loss in the Finals on Sunday May 22nd, the Bay United U14 Girls will travel to Murfreesboro, TN as the State Champion representative from Florida. This is a distinctive honor that no team or club from Bay County has ever achieved. Sixteen teams will represent 12 states in this year’s Southern Regional Tournament. This is a collection of highly talented athletes from some of the most competitive soccer states in the country and is as prestigious as they come in the world of competitive youth soccer.

In order to send our girls to Murfreesboro, we need the help of our community to cover expenses such as travel, lodging, and meals. Our team consists of 15 rostered players, plus our coaching and management staff. The 2011 Southern Regional Tournament spans from formal opening ceremonies on June 16 through championship matches on June 22. As you can imagine the costs associated with sending 20 people 450 miles away from Bay County for six days is a daunting task for our small club and our families. It is with enormous gratitude and great civic pride that we humbly ask for your kind donation in support of our quest to bring home another championship to Bay County. Our club is a 501(c)(3) corporation not for profit under the laws of Florida. Hopefully you will see it in your heart and in your budget to pledge what you can afford to this group of hard working athletes from Bay County. Please contact Ken Mullins at (850)259-8542 for more information about how you can help.

Thank you for your consideration!
