Sand Hills, FL---For a pair of area 1A baseball teams, it's a rather serious business trip ahead. Both Bozeman and Holmes are headed to Fort Myers for 1A State Semifinal games set for JetBlue park there come Wednesday.
For both the Bucks and the Blue Devils it's a return trip to State. They both made it last year, facing each other in the state semi's, with Holmes winning that one, then losing in the title game.
Bucks coach Jeff Patton says all that experience should pay off this time around.
"Yeah I think the guys saw the way it happened last year. We've been in the big environment now, it won't be such an awestruck environment. The guys seem ready for the challenge. Last year I think they might have been a little unsure, and Holmes County was a really good team and I think we got caught up in a little bit. But this year we seem like we're focused focused on Chiefland and just winning that game."
Coming off the win at Liberty in the Region Final, well there's been some time to prepare and celebrate. Patton says he's impressed with the way his kids have handled it all, and how their community is embracing the playoff run.
"The support we've gotten, not even financially, we've had some people come out and right some checks, it's gonna be an expensive undertaking getting down there. But the pats on the back, the emails you receive and the Facebook messages and the things like that, it's overwhelming at times how special this is and it's something that the people up here can be proud of."
As it happens, Bozeman and Holmes on different sides of the bracket, so the Bucks, who will depart Tuesday morning at 9 a.m., face Cheifland in their semi Wednesday at 4:30 eastern,.Holmes, which went south Monday, takes on Trenton in a 7:30 game. Wish them both the best of luck.
