Lynn Haven, FL---Friday night's game between Rutherrford and Mosley is big in a couple of ways.

It's a rivalry game between two teams who won't be in the playoffs, so both hoping to end the season on a high note. This game, our Southern Orthopedic Specialists game of the week.

Let's talk about another reason why this game is rather significant. It deals specifically with Mosley head coach Perry Brown who will be coaching the Dolphins for the final time because he took advantage of the state's lucrative retirement incentive program.

"I got into the drop program about four and a half years ago, and back then you had to sit out 30 days and then come back. But now the state legislature's changed that, so you have to sit out a year."

Brown was hopeful Mosley might hire an interim coach for a year and allow him to come back. Principal Sandy Harrison deciding to instead move on and hire a full time coach for the future. So Brown's options he says, are these.

"I could go out of state, go to Georgia or Alabama or I could sit out, or hunt and fish for a year. Or maybe volunteer coach somewhere and help somebody out."

No matter what though, he'll be coaching Mosley for the final time, after 8 years, two playoff appearances, and helping scores of young student athletes along. So Friday night when he steps on the field might be a bit tough.

"I hope I don't get too emotional, sometimes I cry a little bit. But you know, gollee, it's probably gonna really sink in at the beginning of football season next year when I'm actually going and watching games and not actually coaching. It will probably hit me big then."

Coach Brown believes he has 4 or 5 good coaching years left, so don't expect this "retirement" to keep him from eventually gettting back in the ranks.
