Niceville, FL- There's news on the men's basketball front at Northwest Florida State. Bruce Stewart is officially resigning his job as men's head basketball coach. Stewart as you may know, took a leave of abscence this past season as he battles a serious brain tumor, in fact this week he's into his 4th round of chemo in Gainesville. The coach says overall his prognosis is good, the doctors have told him his tumor has not spread. Regardless he simply wants to spend as much time with his family as possible, so he's decided coming back to the Raiders bench is out.
In his 13 seasons running the program, he was 105-51, with 5 conference, and 3 state titles.
This past season assistant Joe Richardson coached the team, with a 22-6 mark, but the Raiders missed making state by one game. A.D. Mickey Englett says Richardson will certainly be considered to take over full time, but they will also look at other applicants.
