Bulldogs Looking to Rebound After District Title Game Loss

Marianna, FL---Count the Marianna Bulldogs as one of 14 area teams still working towards the start of the state playoffs.

And Marianna is one of the 7 that will play their round one playoff game Thursday night.

Unfortuantely for coach Travis Blanton and his Bulldogs, they will start the playoffs on the road.

Marianna won it's 4A-1 semifinal Friday over Walton, but then lost the district title game Saturday night to Catholic, 56-48. Catholic a team the Bulldogs had beaten twice during the regular season.

"Well it's not like we got beat by a bad team." Coach Blanton told us Monday. "We got beat by a very good team. Very well coached team, very disciplined team, very fundamental team. I've said all year long I felt they were as good as us. You know you can only beat somebody so many times and they played well. I feel like adversity reveals character and the best teams out there always bounce back and show that they can deal with adversity and be able to play well the next time. Because at this point, everybody that you play, no matter where you go, at home or on the road, everybody's good."

So as district runner up, despite the now 25-2 record, the Bulldogs will play their 4A region quarterfinal Thursday at Godby in Tallahassee.

Other area teams playing Thursday, Rutherford, Choctaw, Crestview, Niceville, Rocky Bayou and North Bay Haven. The area 1A teams open the playoffs a week from Tuesday.
