Chipley, Paxton Still Working Towards Possible State Title

Chipley,/Paxton, FL----Two area high school dreams are still working, still dreaming of a state title. Both are on the 1A level and both are now looking ahead to trips to Fort Myers and the state semifinals Monday at JetBlue Park.

One is Chipley which survived a 1-0 thriller against Bozeman last night The starters for both teams really dealing, Daniel Floyd for the Tigers, and Brandon Suttles for the Bucks.

Both working wonders on the mound, getting big strikeouts and big plays behind them to work out of jams.

It was scoreless into the bottom of the 6th when Colby Wiggins grounder one up the middle that gets into shallow center field allowing Shelby Savell to race around with the game's only run. Floyd finishing with a 3 hit shutout, and 9 K's.

That sending Chipley to the state finals for the first time ever. Coach Compton telling me today he'll work his guys out Thursday and Friday.

Friday night is Chipley's prom at Edgewater Beach Resort, and knowing some of the players will spend the night at the beach, he's thinking of taking the bus south and leaving for Fort Myers from the Edgewater.

The plan is to work out Saturday in Brooksville, then finish the trip Saturday night.

The other area team also planning for a trip to Fort Myers is Paxton.

Coach Chris Davenport and his Bobcats beating Blountstown Tuesday night with a walk off run in the bottom of the 8th, 7-6 the final.

Though this is the 10th straight playoff appearance for Paxton, this is also it's first trip ever to state. They play Williston in a four o'clock eastern time game Monday.
