Chipley alum Karsten Whitson racks up another postseason honor as he and the Gators prep for the College World Series in Omaha.

Gainesville, FL-- As the Florida Gators prepare for their trip to Omaha and the College World Series, the postseason honors are rolling in, and chalk one of those honors up for Chipley alum Karsten Whitson. The freshman pitcher has been chosen as a first-team Freshman All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
Whitson who turned down a two million plus signing bonus from the Padres to go to Florida this Fall, racked up an 8-0 record with a 2-45 earned run average. He leads the Gators with 83 strikeouts in 88 innings, limiting opponents to a .235 batting average.
Karsten also chosen to the SEC's All-Freshman Team and as a Freshman All-American by Louisville Slugger. His sophomore catcher Mike Zunino, named a Baseball America first teamer today.
The Gators open up at Omaha Saturday night against Texas, Whitson likely to start the second game for Florida out there.
