Marianna, FL---The Chipola Indians have clawed their way into a tie for second place with Gulf Coast in the Panhandle standings.
The Indians beating Northwest Florida Wednesday night 6-5. Chipola got two doubles and 3 rbi from Chase Nyman while building a 6-0 lead through 7.
In top of the 8th the Raiders scored one on a wild pitch and a Nick Masonia grand slam to get within a run, but Cole Evans works a 1-2-3 9th to save it.
The Indians move to 31-19, more importantly 8-8 in league play, same as idle Gulf Coast. Tallahassee's already clinched the title. The top two teams in the conference earn a berth to the State Tournament next month.
Chipola now heads into a two game set with Pensacola, at Pensacola Friday and in Marianna Saturday.
The Commodores get two with Tallahassee, hosting the Eagles Friday and playing in Tallahassee Saturday.
Then Monday and Wednesday, the Indians and Commodores head to head, the first game in Marianna, the second game, the final game of the regular season, at Frazier Field on the G.C. campus.
It's shaping up to be a thrilling finish for that second state berth in the Panhandle Conference.
