Chipola Set to Host Jose Bautista, Other Baseball Alums

Marianna, FL---It is a big weekend ahead for the Chipola baseball program as Jeff Johnson and company get set to once again host their annual alumni weekend!

"Me being here 18 years" says coach Johnson "we now do have a few alumni back that I have coached. And we're trying to include the alumni from the years before then as well, and make those guys welcome. And that's what we're trying to do. We've got some guys coming back from the 60's and trying to start honoring some classes along the way. We're excited to get the guys in, you always, it's fun to see the guys who played 15-20 years ago, see how much weight they've gained, and everything else they've done."

Again the biggest name alum coming back, Jays slugger Jose Bautista, the two time AL home run champ. Chipola hosts a 10 a.m. game tomorrow and Saturday. The alumni home run derby follows the Saturday game, the alumni dinner is Saturday at 7.

As coach Johnson notes, a chance to watch the assortment of talent consisting of these MLB All Stars and baseball greats is a rare opportunity.

"You don't get that opportunities in these areas to see that, and I hope people take advantage of it. These guys take a lot of their time out, they don't have to come back and do this and they come back just for that, for our program and the people around here. Hopefully they'll get a turnout on Saturday and have the rest of the weekend to watch us play, but especially Saturday to have appreciation for what these guys have done."
