With two games remaining for each team in their conference slate, Gulf Coast was on track to win the Panhandle Conference baseball title as long as they won out the rest of the way. One slip up, and second place Chipola, only one game back in the standings, would move into a tie on top with the Commodores.
Lucky for the Indians, they hold the head-to-head tiebreaker after winning the season series with GC.
That tiebreaker is working out in their favor now, as both teams took the field Wednesday and finished with different results.
GC dropped their game in Tallahassee, losing to the fourth-place Eagles 15-7 in seven innings.
Chipola, on the other hand, defeated Northwest Florida in Niceville, 15-3 in five innings.
With Wednesday in the books, both the Commodores and the Indians sit at 14-5, but the head-to-head advantage would give Chipola the conference crown if the two squads remain tied.
The Championship will be decided Friday in each squads final Panhandle game, as Gulf Coast hosts TCC and Chipola welcomes NWF. Both games begin at 4 PM.
