Hoover, AL-- Auburn's Gene Chizik among the coaches speaking at SEC Media Days in Hoover, Alabama Thursday.
Each coach asked to give some opening remarks when addressing the writers assembled up there. Chizik chose to open his remarks with a thank you of sorts for the support his team got following that tragic shooting in June that left two former players dead and current Auburn offensive lineman Eric Mack injured.
"I'd like to take this opportunity," Chizik said "since it's the first opportunity I've had to publicly thank, so many people for their outpouring of love and prayers and emails and phone calls to the Auburn family since that tragic night, June 9th. I do want to say thank you. I don't think it would be right of me to stand up here in my first opportunity publicly and not do that."
Chizik went on to say he's proud of the way his players have dealt with all that. He says they're all excited to open practice and try to build on the momentum he says they started with the win over Virginia in the Chik Fil-A Bowl!
