Panama City, FL---Choctaw. is the champs of 5A district 1 in terms of girl's basketball. The Lady Indians claiming that title Monday night by beating Rutherford 59-36 at the Cobb Gym on the Bay campus, which served as the tournament host.
That tournament pushed back several days by the bad weather last week in the region. The Lady Indians seemed like they couldn't wait to get on the floor for this title match.
They came out out smoking with a pair of three point plays, one finished by Nadia Fingall, who scored on a putback and hit the free throw after she was fouled.
Brittany Washington then scored on a drive and layup, she too took a foul and made it a three point play. Choctaw. went on to begin the game with a 20-2 run, and their lead was never challenged the rest of the game.
Fingall led all scorers with 21 and Gabrielle Brown adds 13. Choctaw takes it's record to 24-3 and as district champ will open the playoffs Thursday by hosting Suwannee.
The Lady Rams are 14-5 and as district runner up start the playoffs on the road at Rickards.

The Lady Indians though relentless here in the first half, Washington drives again, this time the outlet to Gabrielle Brown, a different kind of 3 point play.
Then off the defensive rebound, it's Washington ahead to Justyce Riggs.

Rutherford the runner up travels to Rickards to open the playoffs Thursday. Choctaw hosts Suwannee in their region quarterfinal.
