Choctaw Defeats Shorthanded Rutherford 4-1

Springfield, FL---At the Shamplain Complex Friday night, the Rutherford Rams were hosting Choctaw, doing so shorthanded with nearly all of the veteran players away on their senior trip.

Early on, the Rams looked to be doing just fine without some of their key guys. They held a 1-0 lead after the first.

The Indians would respond with a run of their own in the top of the second.

The next five innings, neither side could push the go-ahead run across the plate, needing to go to extra-innings to decide a winner.

Rutherford pitcher Joe Ernst ran into difficulties with his control, walking in a run and hitting a batter with the bases loaded to give Choctaw a 3-1 lead.

The Indians would add another run after on a Tom Shaw sac-fly.

In the bottom of the eight, the Rams couldn't get the bats going in their time of need, falling 4-1 to Choctaw.

Pick this one up late in the game, tied at one in the bottom of the 7th the Rams with the winning run at second.

Dustin Dykes with the chance to be the hero, but he skies one to right, easy catch out there so we're headed to extras.

Now top of the 8th, control problems for Joe Ernst, a couple of walks helps load the bases, he then walks Robbie Gilpatrick and that pushes across the go-ahead.

Ernst then hits Kendall Miller to plate another run, they add on a sac fly, and Choctaw wins 4-1.
