Coach Ellis Bringing The Tunes to Port St. Joe This Holiday Weekend

Port St. Joe, FL---It's not often you see a Division One basketball coach standing on stage as the lead singer of a band. Cliff Ellis is that exception.

Coach Ellis, currently the head coach at Coastal Carolina, a team he led to a berth in this year's NCAA tourney, is in fact in Port St. Joe this holiday weekend with his band "The Villagers"

The Chipley native, who has also coached at South Alabama, Clemson and Auburn, as you may know, used to be the lead singer of "The Villagers".

This weekend that band helping Port St. Joe kick off the big weekend with two benefit concerts at the Centennial Building.

Shortly after Friday's sound check, and after an interview coach Ellis he did with Scott McKinney and Southern Sports Tonight, which was doing a remote from the Centennial Building, we spoke with coach Ellis about his return to the stage.

"The Villagers is a group that I played with, actually it started fifty years ago. And one of our band members is from Port St. Joe. And the Centennial building has been here for a long time, and it needs help. We need to raise money to help this building stay where it is. And do some things for the city of Port St. Joe."

If you missed Friday night's performance there's another one Saturday night. The Villagers music by the way now on Itunes!

We'll go more in depth with Coach Ellis about his "other" career, sometime next week.
