Coach Vernette Skeete takes over at GCSC

Panama City, FL-- Coach Roonie Scovel stepped down after last year leaving a head coaching seat empty for the first time in 16 years.

Enter Vernette Skeete who will assume that title as head coach of the Gulf Coast State College women's basketball team.

Skeete played under Coach Scovel and was a part of the first national championship team at GCSC.

Monday was the girls first practice which was primarily a conditioning test.

Coach skeete says it is her job to keep coach Scovel's legacy at the forefront of her player's minds.

"Everyday we go on the court and we look at the name on their and I remind the girls of who you get to play on this court. You get to play on a court that's named after a legend so its our responsibility to make sure we uphold to that."

October 13th the Lady Commodores have a tri-state preseason jamboree in Albany, Georgia.
