NICEVILLE, Fla- It was a somber day in Niceville as former Northwest Florida State head basketball coach Bruce Stewart was laid to rest Friday. He lost his fight with a brain tumor on May 23rd.
Coach Stewart's family, friends, colleagues, and former players filled the First Baptist Church of Niceville for the funeral service.
Coach Stewart died around 5 p.m. at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center Monday, after succumbing to a brain tumor that was originally diagnosed just over 8 months ago. He fought valiantly to beat the stage 4 Glioblastoma, but it spread recently before finally taking his life.
Coach is survived by Robin Stewart, his wife of 35 years, and his two sons and daughter. Stewart was the head coach at at Northwest Florida State for 13 seasons, compiling a 317-82 record, five conference and three state championships. Coach Stewart will be missed, but through his family, friends and players his legacy will live on.
