Panama City, FL --- After being on break the last two weeks, the Gulf Coast Commodores returned to the hardwood tonight for their first game in their very own Holiday Classic.
Head coach Jay Powell and his guys facing off against USC-Salkahatchie in just their fourth game on campus so far this season.
In the highlights attached above, 2nd half, Elliot Cole lobs it up for Jon Wade, the Rutherford Ram alum gets the bucket and gives GC a 10 point advantage.
But USC Salkehatche won't go without a fight. Jimmy Givens connects on the transition three. The Gulf Coast lead only at four.
Commodores work the ball around to the corner where it gets to Anton Waters. Waters drives baseline and gets the hoop and the foul. Commodores hit their free throws late and win this one by a final of 79-64.
After the game, coach Powell was happy with the performance.
"We really set the tone I think with the physical play," said Powell. "Other than a short stretch of the first few minutes of the first half, I thought we did a good job all around, especially defensively for the night. A few too many turnovers, but the guys overall did a really nice job defensively. We knew we had to really defend the three point shot, and we were able to do that with a few exceptions. We were able to contest their shots and get out on them. So it was a good night."
The Commodores are now 11-5 on the year. They play East Georgia at 4:00 PM tomorrow.
