Panama City, FL---We are into the homestretch of the Panhandle Conference baseball season and it's the Gulf Coast Commodores leading Chipola by a nose if you will.
The Commodores are half a game up on the Indians coming out of the weekend.
That's after those two split a pair of games last week. The Indians winning by a blowout Thursday at Frazier Field. The Commodores coming back and winning Friday in Marianna.
So Gulf Coast emerging that two game set with the league lead, heading into a four day break,
"Yeah I mean last week we had three games in conference and we won two of them." G.C. head coach Mike Kandler told me Monday. "That's a very successful week. Going up there after getting beat pretty badly here the game before, to go up to Chipola and win that game Friday, was a huge win for us."
Gulf Coast getting the bye in the early part of this week, the Commodores not back in action until Wednesday when they play at Pensacola.
"The break's a double edged sword because we're playing pretty well so you wanna play. But at the same time we are pretty beat up and we've got a lot of guys that are tender. I think just having a few days off, maybe get some guys feeling a little better, get their legs back under them for those final six games."
The Commodores 11-3 in conference play, 34-9 overall.
