Panama City, FL---Gulf Coast wins the opening round of a crucial three game set between them and the Chipola Indians Thursday, 8-6 the final at Frazier Field.
The win takes Gulf Coast to 6-4 in conference play, now two games ahead of Chipola, which is 4-6 in conference.
The Indians got a two run double in the top of the first to take a quick lead, but the Commodores come back with an rbi single by Ty Downing in the bottom of the first.
Rutherford alum Dakota Spikes followed that with a grand slam over the fence in left and the Commodores had the lead for good.
These same two are back at it again Friday at Chipola, a 2 o'clock start. They'll wrap up the three game set Saturday back at Frazier Field.

Let's fast forward to the 8th inning now, the Commodores leading it 6-4, they get a run on a wild pitch then another here when Downing hits one off Niceville alum Mikel Belcher, no play anywhere, Dyal scores to make it 8-5.
Indians rally in the 9th, table set for Chase Nyman who singles to center, plating Tunon and Givens, it's 8-6.
But Husum able to get Mars to hit the soft liner to short, Commodores win, extend their lead for second in the league to two over Chipola.
