Panama City, FL---The Gulf Coast men's basketball team protected the home floor Wednesday night, getting a crucial win over Tallahassee 73-72. That allowing the Commodores to move within half a game of second place and idle Chipola!
The game coming down to the final seconds, Tallahassee's Trevor McDade missed from 12 feet on a last second attempt to win the game. Off the miss, Marlon Johnson saved the loose ball in bounds to Bernard Kline, whose shot was deflected and fell into the hands of a Commodore defender as the horn sounded.
Tallahassee led 28-26 at the half in a game that featured 12 ties and 23 lead changes.
Gulf Coast State’s Jose Rodriguez scored the winning points when he hit a pair of free throws with 31 seconds remaining in the game.
C.J. Washington and Jonathan Hood led Tallahassee with 18 points each.
Gulf Coast, now 4-3 in conference, 19-5 overall, will next host Pensacola Saturday. Tallahassee will travel to Northwest Florida State College on Saturday.
The attached video shows the following:
Tallahassee coming at you in the first half, this is CJ Washington taking the nice feed and laying it in with the left hand.
The Commodores respond with the drive by Chad Frazier, he gets the roll. Close half, 28-26 Tallahassee into the break.
Second half the Commodores trying to take the lead, nice dish here from Frazier to Andrew Fisher and the big guy slams it home.
Follow that up with the shot by Leonard Smith Junior, that doesn't go, the follow shot won't go either, there's a scramble for the ball, Smith gets it, scores, and one.
Then the Commodores show some great ball movement settingup the three by Jose Rodriguez.
