TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- After five consecutive losses to open Panhandle Conference play - four of which were by single-digits and totaled 15 points - Tallahassee Community College finally put it together on Tuesday evening and defeated FCSAA No. 8 Gulf Coast State College 88-67.
Tallahassee improved to 13-9 overall, 1-5 in PC play and avenged a 48-47 loss in Panama City on January 14. More importantly, the Eagles are now just one game back in the loss column of both Gulf Coast State (13-10, 3-4) and Chipola College (2-4) as they try to keep their postseason hopes alive.
The 88 points were the Eagles' second-highest point total of the season and easily their most in PC play.
Before the Bill Hebrock Eagledome crowd could get situated, Christian Farmer scored 10 points in the first 1:38 to give the Eagles a 10-2 lead.
Farmer hit 5-of-6 three-pointers and scored 19 first-half points as Tallahassee took a 45-35 lead to the locker room.
“I just felt confident, I wanted to come out and help my team win," said Farmer. "It’s life or death now, I just wanted to come out aggressive and help the team any way I can.”
Farmer finished the game with 25 points, just one off his career-high.
Gulf Coast State never got closer than nine points in the second half. Alan Love's basket at the 11:49 mark cut Tallahassee's lead to 62-53. Tallahassee scored the next seven points to extend its lead back to 16 and eventually led by as many as 21.
Tramain Parker added 15 points for Tallahassee and Curtis Diamond scored 14, to lead a 29-point night from the Eagles' reserves.
Tallahassee will look to carry the momentum from Tuesday's victory into Saturday night's showdown with Northwest Florida State College. Tip-off is at 7:30 p.m. Gulf Coast is back to action next Wednesday when they host Chipola.
