Gainesville, FL----It's good news for the Gators, their starting quarterback is back practicing this week. Actually as he recovered from an appendectomy a couple of weeks ago, Jeff Driskel spent time in the meetings and on the practice field, just not doing any serious physical activity.
"I started out walking on the treadmill." Driskel says. "Then I got into the elliptical. After that I did some running. So I tried to stay as in shape as I could during the time I wasn't practicing."
Jeff says he also stayed in tune with everything the other quarterbacks were doing as he healed up.
"You know during camp we definitely get our time in in the meeting room anyways. so it was just making sure that i was watching everyone's reps and listening to every coaching point because they're gonna apply to me too, not just the guy taking the reps. i think i did a really good job of retaining everything in the meetings. i definitely didn't like standing there, practice goes by a lot slower when you're not involved, that's for sure.""
As for contact, well Jeff isn't worried about that saying he feels he's ready to take some hits, but doesn't expect to any time soon.
I'm sure I won't take a hit until the first game, but I'm sure I could right now. I'm sure I could. We haven't tested it or anything like that. But everything seems fine and that's not really an issue for me anymore."
Driskel and the Gators working towards an opener on the home field against Toledo on the 30th, then it's a trip to Miami in week two.
