Destin, FL---It's officially summer, and much like the weather, the local fishing scene has heated up all weekend.
Inaugural events, jaw-dropping prize payouts, national television exposure, and of course, huge hauls on the water.
The 12th annual Emerald Coast Blue Marlin classic officially came to a close Sunday at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort, wrapping an exciting and record breaking weekend by handing out an all-time event-high $1.68 million.
The biggest payout was earned by the "Reel Worthless" team, who's going to want to change their name after winning the biggest single check in ECBC history for $498,450
Angler Steve Brown out of Pensacola Beach earned the check for his boat when he reeled in one of 16 blue marlins caught on the weekend, but the lone one weighed in. The beast of a billfish was listed on the scale at 594.9 pounds.
"Reel Worthless" took home nine awards in total, highlighted by their first place finish out of the 77 boat field.
