ECBC Likely To See More Than 80 Boats Compete For More Than $1.5 Million

Sandestin, FL---It's tournament week at Sandestin, which is getting set to host the 12th annual Emeral Coast Blue Marlin Classic, with fishing to begin Thursday and weigh-ins Friday and Saturday.

Adam Alfonso is the event's Tournament Director this year, and he feels as if everything is in place as far as Monday of "game week" is concerned.

"We have all the set ups going on at the Marina." Adam told us Monday. "As you can see there's a lot going on here at the Marina. We have our jumbotron being set up and all of our tents being delivered right now. So set up is going pretty fantastic. Last year at this point we had 68 boats signed up. Right now we have 71 paid deposits, or paid entry fees. We have 77 confirmed boats. And just talking to some of the captains in Destin we are expecting another five to seven that's gonna sign up also."

So it looks like more than 80 boats will compete. That means a prize purse of more than $1.5 million bucks will be up for grabs. The defending champ is an angler by the name of Scott Cooper out of Point Clear, Alabama. His 613 pound blue netting his team 283 grand.

There are all kinds of events other than weigh-ins happening related to the ECBC, including an event Friday specifically for kids. For all that information and all things related to the Tournament, check out
