Eagles Bound For National TV In August

Niceville, FL---There's big news concerning the Niceville high school football program.

Coach John Hicks telling us Thursday afternoon his Eagles will be playing a nationally televised game come August on ESPNU.

Coach Hicks telling me he got a call from a sports marketing company based in Chicago that puts games together for ESPNU.

Hicks says they've lined up a game for August 23rd as part of a high school doubleheader in Hoover Alabama.

Hoover will host Miami Central in a noon game, then Niceville will face Clay-Chalkville, a 5A school in Pinson, Alabama, northeast of Birmingham.

ESPN and/or the marketing company will help subsidize the travel costs the coach tells us.

Hicks says they've had to rearrange the schedule, cancel their kickoff classic, since there is a limit on the number of games high school teams can play in a season.

As for the Niceville players, coach Hicks says they're very excited about the prospect of playing on national television.

And given they're coming off a trip to the state title game, well Hicks says it's a great time for the Niceville program.
