Eagles Gear Up for Championship Week

Niceville, FL---In terms of area high school football there remains just one game left on the slate this season. That game comes Friday night in Orlando's Citrus Bowl.

The Niceville Eagles the team playing in that game. Thanks to the thrilling back and forth 31-30 win over Osceola this past Friday, the Eagles are bound for the 7A State Championship game.

It will be the second trip to the title game for Niceville under coach John Hicks, and in fact they get a chance at some payback against Dwyer. That's the team that beat the Eagles in oh-9, that's the team the Eagles will face this Friday.

I spoke briefly Monday with coach Hicks about the schedule. He says they'll practice on the home field Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, before hitting the road Thursday. He's planning a short workout in Gainesville before finishing the trip into Orlando.

Coach Hicks by the way fighting what he calls a nasty virus, and that's a big time problem, since he certainly doesn't want to spread it around the team, but he does have to spend some time around his fellow coaches and eventually the players. Much more on Niceville's preps as the week moves on.
