The college football regular season is less than a month away. What better to get fans pumped up for the new year than the always controversial but always coveted preseason rankings.
The first Amway Coaches Poll of 2014 is out and no shocker who's on top the game. Who else but the defending champion Florida State Seminoles.Jimbo Fisher, Jameis Winston, and the Noles claim to 56 of the potential 62 first place votes. It's only the second time since 2008 a non SEC team is the coaches top preseason team.
As for the Southeastern conference, their top team is Nick Saban and Alabama at number two. Seven teams from the SEC were picked by the coaches, and despite not having named a starting QB yet, though all signs point to FSU transfer Jacob Coker, the Tide rolls near the top, but without any first place votes.
As for last year's SEC champ, the Auburn Tigers round out the top five, ending up right behind FSU, 'Bama, Oklahoma and Oregon.
Both Auburn and Alabama start their fall practice schedule Friday.
As for the Florida Gators, despite a rough go for Will Muschamp and UF in 2013, the team that finished 4-8 returns talent the nation's coaches believe in. They just miss the top 25, entering 2014 ranked 27th.
Florida and Florida State open practice Monday.
