FSU's Weaver, Noles Commit Gordon Picked in MLB Draft 1st Round

Secaucus, NJ---Thursday night marked day one of the 2014 MLB Draft at the MLB Network Studios.

As players from our local Division One and Juco college teams will wait to hear their name called, the first player associated with the area's squads has actually yet to ever put on his college uniform.

Florida State commit, Shortstop Nick Gordon was taken fifth overall by the Minnesota Twins straight out of high school in Orlando. It's likely he'll forgo FSU for the pros.

A current Noles player was called with the 27th pick, as the St. Louis Cardinals selected Junior All-American pitcher Luke Weaver.

The FSU right-hander went 8-4 with a 2.62 ERA through the 2014 season in Tallahassee. He should fit in with the Red Birds well, as he claims to be an avid birdwatcher. Clearly, some things are meant to be.

Day two of the 2014 MLB Draft begins at 12:05 central.
