James Finch Talks About Hiring Kurt Busch

LYNN HAVEN, FL- Phoenix Racing made a big hire on Wednesday night as team owner James Finch reached an agreement with 2004 NASCAR champion Kurt Busch. Busch agreed to drive the #51 car for Phoenix Racing in the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide series.

Busch has had his share of embarrassments in the last few months, getting into a heated argument with a reporter, amongst other things. That led to his departure from Penske racing, and the opening for him to sign with Phoenix.

After a few weeks of talks, and a meeting in Charlotte Wednesday, Finch and Busch agreed to a deal. Now Phoenix Racing has a cup champion, and a chase driver behind the wheel. Finch says has already talked with Busch about his past.

"He lost a job and he's lost several million dollars, and so I think that's been a wake up call. I told him, I said Kurt it's about winning racing. you need to watch your temper and your mouth," Finch said. "I hired him for his foot and not his mouth. hopefully we can get him controlled. He's got a long way to come. He's got to show people he's going to be a driver. And show NASCAR that he's a driver, and he's going to do what's expected as a driver."

Busch and the team will head to test for the preseason thunder session at Daytona International Speedway as they prepare for the Budweiser Shootout.

I am A Kurt Busch fan for one reason, he cand drive the heck out of a car. I hope Kurt will realize it's not always someone else's fault when he doesn't win. Kurt is so talented and can bring this team where it deserves to be. And he should always remember Mr. Finch as a man who has helped him at a critical time in his life. Tell them what you think Kurt, but listen to what they say.

I actually hope Kurt does well for James Finche's sake, maybe this will bring some sponsorship dollars to an underfunded team who has strived and supported this series for years.

@Joe ... Kurt Busch is in the big league now. Cameras in their faces 24/7 is part of the game, it's the league they sought after for years and with it comes cameras, scrutiny, jets and huge houses ... Kurt Busch signed up for it, he wasn't drafted out of the blue. Yes he has some growing up to do.

Their Dad had a tool truck out in Las Vegas. Didn't appear to be big money. Father is extremly arrogant, that is where both of the boys get it from.

So all you people who put down this guy have never, ever done anything wrong ? the problem is everything Kurt does is recorded or filmed. Do you think if a film crew was in your house 24/7 they would only sugar dumplings every day? Granted the guy was a bit rough with his team and Roger but he wanted to win not run second or third or last. I raced on a much lower level and I can understand how Kurt feels. You don't think about anything else when you're strapped in that car. You just want to win. Nobody has any right to put this guy down until you wear his shoes. just think about it for one minute.
