Greensboro, NC--Jimbo Fisher is heading into his third season as the head coach at Florida State with some pressure on him no doubt about it. Perhaps the relationship between his quarterback and offensive line will help turn that pressure into a big season.
After all, Seminole nation simply doesn't want to see another 4 loss season. If Jimbo's to improve dramatically on that, he'll need a big year out of senior q-b EJ Manuel who frankly has showed flashes, but not lived up to the hype he had coming into the program.
Fisher says if Manuel's to have a big year, his offensive line must have a big year, and in fact, as Jimbo puts it, the relationship between that oh line and EJ must be a "coddling one."
"Those guys have to take a personal pride like he's their baby. It's like a mama, you know you don't want no one to touch your baby, I think that offensive line has to feel that. And I think when like the guy and respect the guy that's back there, and I think they do because they know how competitive he is, and the toughness he plays with. But also the respect he has for them as players and an understanding how tough their job is. I think EJ, that's just another sign of how mature EJ is and understanding the big picture of who he is in the big picture as our quarterback."
Basically the entire team's been working together through the summer, officially fall practice begins August 6th. FSU opens at home September 1st against Murray State.
