GC's Skeete Considering Offer From Marquette

Panama City, FL---The Gulf Coast women's basketball is dealing with the possible departure of second year women's head coach Vernette Skeete.

Coach Skeete confirming to us she is entertaining a job offer from Marquette University, which recently hired Carolyn Kieger as head coach.

Kieger and Skeete were assistants together at the University of Miami before Skeete came back to her juco alma mater a few years ago.

Coach Skeete tells me she's flattered to be getting the offer, she feels it speaks well of the reputation she's established in the coaching community. She stresses she's just in the initial phase of looking into this opportunity.

She adds it's tough for coaches to have their names mentioned with offers because it can have a negative impact on recruiting. Coach Skeete feels like she worked hard to recruit a group she feels has national championship potential this coming season.

And she says no matter what decision she makes, it's vitally important to her the kids at Gulf Coast and the incoming recruits stay together and be well taken care of.

Gulf Coast 50-13 in two seasons under Coach Skeete, with a state title and 4th place national finish in the 2012-13 season.

We'll keep you advised as to how this process goes for coach Skeete.
