Gators Hoping for Rebound in SEC Tournament

Gainesville, FL---The Florida Gators basketball team is getting set to open play at the SEC Tournament Friday in Nashville.

As the regular season champs of the SEC, they get a bye into the quarterfinals of their conference tourney. They'll face LSU at noon Friday.

Florida you could say limping into the postseason, having lost three of 6, those three losses on the road in games where they held big leads, only to lose by committing turnovers down the stretch and missing easy and open shots.

They led by 7 at Kentucky Saturday, but failed to score in the final 7 minutes.

Head coach Billy Donovan says they're always working on the turnover problem, have been since preseason.

"But we've gotta get better. And I would say this, if you look at the numbers, it's not like we're turning the ball over 20 times a game. But in some of those stretches where we've got the lead some of those things are coming back and we're not giving ourselves the chance to shoot the basketball. But I'm not saying that, with the way we shot the ball closing the game out against Kentucky, I mean I don't know what the solution is to layups, runners and those things. They've gotta do a better job of finishing."

As for match up with LSU , the Gators won their only match up this season, by 22 in Baton Rouge, 74-52.

If the Gators win three straight and the SEC tourney, they could conceivably work themselves back as high as a two seed for the NCAA tournament.
