Gainesville, FL---Florida State and Florida are working towards the start of their respective conference tournaments this week. The Seminoles head to Greensboro and a game against Maryland at noon eastern Thursday.
FSU, at 18 wins, in must win mode there in terms of their NCAA tourney hopes. If they lose Thursday, they won't be "dancing".
The Gators meanwhile in a very different situation heading to Atlanta for the SEC tournament.
Florida at 29-2, the first team to ever go 18-0 in SEC play. They're pretty much a guaranteed one seed for the big dance.
This group of players though has never won the SEC tourney title, so that's ahead of them, as well as the expectation that they'll compete for the national championship.
"I think our guys are excited and understand the only thing that matters is the first game that we play on Friday." says Florida head coach Billy Donovan. "That's where we're at right now. So we don't know who we're gonna play so it's a little bit of a unique situation. Most of the time during the year you know, here's who we're playing next. And you kind of can start the preparation for that. That's not the case here with this tournament, we're just gonna play the winner of that game on Thursday."
The Thursday game he's talking about is between 8 seed Missouri and 9 seed Texas A&M. The Gators Friday game against the Tigers or Aggies will be Friday at noon central.
