OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Brittany Schutte hit a grand slam, Cheyenne Coyle homered and drove in four runs and Florida beat Alabama 16-2 on Sunday to avoid elimiation at the Women's College World Series.
The Gators put a halt to the Tide's 30 1-3 inning shutout streak, scoring 11 runs in the first inning and making quick work of their Southeastern Conference rival. The game was called after five innings because of the mercy rule.
The teams will play again Sunday night, with the winner advancing to the best-of-three finals.
Michelle Moultrie led off the game with a home run and Kelsi Dunne forced in runs by hitting Coyle with a pitch and then walking Aja Paculba before Jackie Traina came on in relief with just one out.
Schutte finished the big inning with a grand slam.
