Springfield, FL---The Mosley Dolphins are moving on in the state baseball playoffs, the Rutherford Rams see their season end Tuesday night.
Mosley went to Shamplain and beat the Rams Tuesday 5-1 behind a couple of big hits from Clay Causey and Connor Green, and the pitching of freshman Weston Bizzle.
Causey delivered the first blow with an rbi triple in the top of the 4th, breaking a scoreless tie. Bowen McGuffin, who had walked to lead off the inning, scored from first.
Green then delivered his first rbi of the game with a sacrifice fly to center, allowing Causey to jog home to make it 2-0.
That's how it stayed until the top of the 6th when Rutherford starter Nick Nelson hit both Brady Bell and Causey, and Green followed that with a towering blast over the fence in right field for a three run homer, making it 5-0.
That was plenty for Bizzle who went the distance giving up just one run on 4 hits, while striking out 8.
The Dolphins wind up with three wins against the rival Rams on the season and Tuesday's win takes Mosley's record to 25-4. The Rams see their season end at 22-5.
Next up for the Dolphins, a home game in the 5A region final against Clay Tuesday night.
The attached video shows the following:
-The two starters pitching well early on, freshman Weston Bizzle for the Dolphins, who gets the first inning K here. And Nick Nelson for the Rams who in the third, gets the strikeout of Brady Bell, the hard way, Bell out at first, the game scoreless through three.
-Top of the 4th the Dolphins get on the board, McGuffin at first, Clay Causey drives one to straightaway center, over the head of Jacquez Koonce, Bell scores, Causey into third with a triple.
-Next hitter is Connor Green and he too goes to center, Koonce hauls that one in but it's deep enough to plate Causey, it's 2-0 Mosley.
-Same score into the top of the 6th, Nelson hits Bell and Causey and then it's Green with a towering shot to right, a three run blast that basically seals the deal. It ends 5-1, so the Dolphins move to 26-3 and into the 5A region finals. They will face Clay in Green Cove Springs Tuesday night.
