Panama City, FL --- There's not a more exciting time in all of Junior college basketball in our area than Panhandle conference play.
For the Gulf Coast Commodores, that began Tuesday night in Marianna, and while GC fell to Chipola by only four, head coach Jay Powell said as exciting as this time is, importance lies with keeping his team fresh and prepared for their Panhandle rivals.
"It's a fun time of the year. You get 12 games in really a month and a half, maybe a month and 20 days. And you're exhausted by the end of it. Maybe even halfway through, you're exhausted. So you really have to manage staying off our legs to have maximum effort, maximum energy during the games. But at the same time as a coach, you see the film, you watch the games, you know that there's things that your team needs to work on. You have to be very careful but it's a fun challenge and I enjoy getting to do it"
Gulf Coast will look to even their conference record at 1-1 this Saturday at 7:30 when they host Tallahassee Community College.
The Lady Commodores tip off right before them at 5:30 as they look to bounce back from their first loss of the year also against Chipola.
