Gulf Coast Gets Split in Home Opener

Panama City, FL---After playing it's first 15 games on the road to start the season, the Gulf Coast softball team able to make it's home opener, winding up with a split of two with Chattanooga State.

The Lady Commodores winning the first game 5-4 in extra innings, Chattanooga State coming back to win the nightcap 4-2.

So that leaves Gulf Coast's overall record now 11-6. Chattanooga State by the way coached by Marianna alum and former Gulf Coast assistant coach Blythe Golden. She and her team are staying in the area to play through the weekend in the Gulf Coast Beach Classic at Frank Brown Park.

Lady Commodores getting a strong effort in game one from Olivia McLemore. He she gets one of several early inning strikeouts.

Still scoreless into the bottom of the third, McKenzie Arlt singles through the right side, Sian Colee around from second to score the game's first run.

Top of the 5th still 1-0, Chattanooga with two on and two outs, the single to center, Colee comes up and fires a strike to Arlt who applies the tag to end that threat.

Then in the bottom half, it's Amanda Grimaldo with an rbi double plating Holly Brown. Gulf Coast able to hold off a late rally and win game one 5-4, and falling in game two 4-2.
