Hale Taking Mariner Head Coaching Gig

Panama City Beach, FL---It hasn't taken long for former Arnold head coach James Hale to get back into the prep coaching ranks. He says he's taking the head coaching job at Mariner High School down in Cape Coral.

That's a move back to Lee county with which he's rather familiar, he spent ten seasons at Cape Coral High School, in fact Mariner's chief rival in that county.

Hale left Arnold after this past season following a 13 year run in that post, he started that program back in two thousand.

His teams compiling an 80-52 record with four state playoff appearances, he guided some 40 players to collegiate football scholarships.

Back in December he said it was time for him to walk away from that program, not knowing what his next move would be.

Now that move is back to Lee County on the southwest coast of Florida, and just the thought of being a head coach again has him pretty excited.

"I really miss it, I missed it." says coach Hale. "And now have had three opportunities to accept a position. This last one, knowing the people of Lee County, going back to Cape Coral and the coach at our rival school, Cape's rival school Mariner. The thing about this job is they really came after me, they really wanted me. I believe he said they had 90 people that applied for the job. And they want me to come in and do what we did at Cape Coral, when we took over a program that hadn't had a winning season in ten years."

Hale turned that program around, so he's hoping he can repeat history. He says he's not finalized his contract, he'll head down to Cape Coral Wednesday for that and to meet with his new players.
