Halifax All Star Classic Set for Saturday

Panama City, FL---Area hoops fans get a rare treat Saturday, as some of the best talent in the Panhandle converges on the Harrison Field House on the Gulf Coast campus for some all star basketball.

The Panama City News Herald's parent company hosting the annual Halifax All Star Classic, two games, girls first then the guys.

The teams made up of players from the East, or the counties served by the News Herald, against the teams from the West, served by it's sister paper the Northwest Florida Daily News.

To say the least, all the players involved well deserving of "All-Star" status, but the boys squad on the east is a particulary impressive list.

Bay's Ryan Norwood, Kiki Williamson and Jai Jencks of Rutherford, DJ Roulhac and Jerrod Blount of Cottondale, Ty Baker and Austin Williams of Malone, Marquis White of Graceville.

One of the East's boy's team coaches, Graceville's Matt Anderson, has some thoughts for fans thinking about coming to watch Saturday.

¶"They're gonna get a treat if they'll come on out and watch. I mean we've got some of the best big guys in the area, some of the best point guards in the area. We've got shooters, we've got dunkers, we've got everything you need. I mean we're going to try and win the game but it's gonna be fun to watch and you won't regret coming out to see this game."

Holmes star Chris Walker was on the original East roster but because he was invited to play in two national all star games, the rules prevent him playing in a third.

Mosley's Alexis Ware and Arnold's JoJo Booker lead the East girls team. The girls game tips off at 11 a.m. Saturday, the boys at 1. Ted will have the highlights for you Saturday night at 6 and 10. Below are the entire rosters of the four All-Star teams.
