Bonifay, FL--The Holmes High School baseball team is back in Bonifay, the team bus arriving back at the school late Wednesday afternoon.

That following Holmes' trip to Port St. Lucie. Coach Ron Dixon and the Blue Devils winning their first game down there, beating Bozeman in the 1A state semifinals.

That put them into the championship game against Union out of Lake Butler, a game they lost by a final of 6-3.

Holmes starter Ty Russ pitched well but some errors hurt the cause, and the Tigers put up the first 6 runs of the game.

Coach Dixon telling Newschannel 7 Sports Wednesday he was proud of the way his kids fought back.

They hit three balls that would have been home runs in any high school park, but they were playing yesterday at Digital Domain Park, the Mets spring training home.

So again a 3 run loss, a 25-4 final record and 1-A state runners up.

Dixon says his kids are definitely disappointed, but dealing with the setback well.

He says though they lose 6 seniors, they have the nucleus of a good team coming back. He says those returning are anxious to get into summer ball, and begin working on making a return trip to state.

The coach says the experience of the past few days is invaluable, and should they be fortunate enough to go back to state, those experiences should pay big dividends.
