Indians Beat Central Florida In State Opener


Ocala, FL---The Chipola men's basketball team is off to a good start at the State Tournament in Ocala. The Indians beating Central Florida in their Thursday quarterfinal 82-73.

The Indians taking control of this game early on and building a 18 point lead by halftime.

The Patriots able to pull back to within 8 points midway through the second half, but Chipola would not allow them to get any closer, eventually hitting enough free throws down the stretch to win by 9.

Sam Cassell, Jr., named Wednesday as the Panhandle Conference player of the year, led his team with 26 points.

Chipola moves into the state semifinals and a 3 o'clock eastern time game against Polk, which was a 69-68 winner over Eastern Florida Wednesday.

The Panhandle's other team at State, Pensacola, also a winner in it's quarterfinal match, beating Daytona 63-62.
