Indians Fall in State Semifinal

Lakeland, FL---The Chipola Indians have to settle for a third place finish at State, as they lost in their semifinal game Tuesday against State College out of Bradenton.

The latter scored the first run of that game in the first, a grounder to short by Julian Santos that he was barely able to beat out, though the Chipola folks might argue he didn't beat it out. At any rate that two out infield hit scored Orlando Rivera with the game's first run.

Manatee scored another run in the bottom of the second with a sacrifice fly and the Indians trailed 2-0. They cut that lead in half with a run on a fielder's choice in the top of the 7th. And then tied the game on Daniel Mars' sacrifice fly to center which scored Luis Tunon from third.

Neither team was able to score in the 9th, 10th or the 11th. So the game went into the 12th. In the bottom half of that inning Manatee got runners to second and third with one out. Tunon saved the game for a minute by cutting the first of those runners down at the plate on a grounder to second.

The next hitter though, Dalton Busby, singled through the left side scoring the game winning run, 3-2 the final in 12.

Chipola's season ends with an overall record of 38-21.
