Indians Still Working Towards Trip to State

MARIANNA-- This is a big week ahead for a couple of Panhandle baseball teams, both Gulf Coast and Chipola are heading to Lakeland for the State Tournament.

The Indians head south as the Panhandle Champs, they'll open up play Friday night against Central Florida.

Chipola having to dodge some nasty weather last week while trying to get some work in. Days like Monday, with dry sunny conditions, make it easier, actually the Indians scrimmaged against Wallace. All in all, coach Johnson says this about the time off so far.

"You know the weather came in last week and I think we lost three days because of the weather. But it wasn't that bad because we were in finals and had the chance to give our kids some time off, and work in the cages. I wish we could have got back out on Thursday but it was Friday before we got back out. But we're working, we've got some injury issues we've got to deal with right now but just getting ready to go down there Wednesday and play on Friday."

That Indians game Friday at Joker Marchant stadium in Lakeland set for 7 eastern. The Commodores open up with a one o'clock game Friday against Eastern Florida State. Both teams set to travel Wednesday.
