Indians Work for More Consistency During Late Season Run

Marianna, FL---The Chipola Indians are within half a game of the second place Gulf Coast Commodores, with the chance to tie things up Wednesday.

Tuesday an off day for the Indians, at least in terms of game action, as they gear up for a home game Wednesday against Northwest Florida.

Coach Jeff Johnson and his guys coming off a 6-1 win Monday night over the Raiders, leaving them 7-8 in conference, and half a game behind Gulf Coast for second place in the league, the Commodores idle in conference play until Friday.

Tuesday afternoon I spoke with coach Johnson about his team's continued up and down play.

"You know we can't forget we've got a young team, 21 of the 25 are freshmen and we've got two transfers." Johnson told us. "So it's a new group for us. But we're along in the season now where they're all sophomores. You know we've got to start making some strides and doing some things, hopefully and doing some things that will make us successful. You know our inconsistencies have really continued throughout the year. The one thing that's starting to happen that I feel a little better about is our pitching staff is starting to throw better the last week. I thought that would be a strength of our team to carry us a little bit early, but we haven't done as well with that, but it seems to be coming around a little as of late."

That game with the Raiders Wednesday at 5, then Chipola plays two with Pensacola this weekend while the Commodores take on TCC.

Then next Monday and Wednesday, it's the Indians and Commodores head to head to likely decide that second place state berth.
