Jason Griffin Named Interim Coach For Rutherford Football

Springfield, FL----The Rutherford football program now finds itself under the guidance of assistant coach Jason Griffin, with spring ball just over three weeks away.

Rutherford A.D. Kirk Harrell Monday sending out an email to the Rutherford faithful and the media informing them Griffin's been named the interim coach, while the search for a more permanant replacement to Alvin Dempsey gets going.

Coach Dempsey we were informed Friday, handed in his resignation, the school's release citing personal and health issues. Sources close to the coach tell us he was forced out after back to back losing seasons.

Coach Griffin is a 1992 Rutherford graduate who's been working as the Rams offensive coordinator the last two year, also coached under Steve Hardin there between 2000 and 2005.

Griffin says he'll meet with the other coaches, get a plan together to carry the program through spring and work to make sure things keeping move in the right direction.

Coach Griffin telling me he does intend to submit his name to become the next head coach full time and hopes he can use spring as a way to put his best foot forward so to speak.

Spring ball starts May first. The job must be advertised for two weeks before a search committee can begin setting up interviews. Harrell says he's hopeful a new head coach will be named before the end of the school year.
