Johnson wins Sherman Invitational with clutch putt on 18

LYNN HAVEN, Fla- The 83rd Sherman invitational wrapped up Sunday with several interested spectators cheering on former champs till the end.

After a weekend filled with some great shots, the last group to tee off in the championship flight was the group with the only shot at the title.

Matt Johnson was a co leader heading into the final round, and he was battling Bob Mathers, and last years champ Zach Primavera in the final group. On the 18th it got interesting. Johnson had a two stroke lead at 8 under over Mathers, while Primavera was 3 back at 5 under. Mathers would tap in a par putt after barely missing the birdie attempt by less than a foot. So it was up to Johnson. He would miss a 30 foot putt for par by several feet. He then stepped up and nailed a 15 footer for bogey that secured the win by one stroke. Johnson broke the tournament record for low score at 7 under, while Mathers was 6 under, the previous record, and Primavera finished at 5 under. It's Johnson's second tournament title.

"We had a very interesting final round with Zach Primavera, myself and Bob Mathers. I was fortunate I guess making that 15 footer on the last hole to escape with the win. It feels great to win this, this is a big time tournament," Johnson said. "I'm just proud, I'm just proud of myself."
